AMD falls 7.5% as investors wait for Tuesday's earnings

The chipmaker gives up an early rebound before its next test of data-center and PC demand.

Advanced Micro Devices shares fell 7.52% to $466.84 on Monday, reversing an early gain as selling returned to the semiconductor sector. The decline came one trading day before AMD's next earnings report, making Tuesday's results a test of whether its business can stand apart from the pressure on other chipmakers.

AMD is scheduled to release fiscal third-quarter results after the market closes on Tuesday, November 3, with a management call at 5 p.m. Eastern. Monday's share-price decline is a market reaction before that report, not a response to newly released AMD results.

A rebound that did not last

The stock traded above $512 during Monday's session before finishing near the day's low. Its previous closing price was $504.80. The closing move is separate from small after-hours changes, which do not alter the regular-session result.

The wider backdrop remained difficult. Intel lost another 8.8% following Friday's sharp selloff, while Marvell and Lumentum declined after announcing their all-stock combination. Those developments do not establish that AMD faces the same company-specific problems.

What Tuesday can clarify

Investors will be watching AMD's outlook for data-center demand, the PC market and the spending needed to support growth. Strong demand alone does not settle questions about margins, costs or how quickly customers turn their own AI spending into revenue.

Monday's mixed market close showed the divide: lower oil helped the Dow rise, but technology selling pulled the Nasdaq lower. AMD's report is the next company-level checkpoint, not a guarantee that the chip sector's direction will change.
