Anthropic files for IPO, planning a Nasdaq listing under the ticker ANT
The AI lab behind Claude reported $16.29 billion in first-half revenue, up 1,304% from a year earlier, in what could rank among the largest listings on record.
Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday for an initial public offering, saying it plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "ANT." It is the first major AI lab to seek a public listing, and the offering could rank among the largest on record.
The filing offers the first detailed look at the startup's finances. Revenue reached $16.29 billion in the six months ended June 30, up 1,304% from $1.16 billion a year earlier, after jumping 1,089% to $4.59 billion for all of last year. Anthropic was valued at about $965 billion in a May funding round, weeks before Microsoft disclosed a $3.2 billion gain on its stake, a mark that pushed the lab above OpenAI, which was valued at $852 billion after closing a $122 billion round in March. Some analysts have discussed a potential listing valuation of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, roughly 22 to 30 times revenue.
The prospectus also maps where the revenue comes from: no single customer accounted for more than 10% of revenue in the nine months ended September 30, though five customers made up about a quarter, and 48% of revenue arrives through cloud marketplaces. Anthropic cautioned that it expects to keep deriving a significant share of revenue from a limited number of customers. No date or price range for the offering has been set.
