Anthropic revenue nears $17 billion as computing commitments reach $895 billion
An amended IPO filing shows rapid growth, a quarterly operating loss and a much larger bill for future capacity.
Anthropic brought in nearly $17 billion in third-quarter revenue, but the cost of expanding its computing capacity kept pressure on the business. An amended IPO filing released Monday showed revenue of $16.96 billion, up from $11.56 billion in the previous quarter, and an operating loss of $567 million.
The Claude developer also disclosed about $895.4 billion in purchase commitments and lease agreements, substantially all tied to computing and infrastructure. Those are commitments extending into the future, not a bill paid during the quarter. About $69.8 billion was due in the 12 months after September 30.
The distinction between operating and net losses matters. Anthropic reported a $23.29 billion quarterly net loss, which includes non-operating accounting items connected to convertible securities. That figure is not the same as cash spent running the business. The operating result reversed a $974 million profit in the second quarter.
The filing sharpens the question facing the AI buildout: whether fast-growing sales can support the capacity companies have promised to buy. It adds another view of the financing pressures behind Oracle's planned debt and share sale and Alphabet's euro bond offering.
