Micron falls 7% as the AI buildout trade weakens
The memory-chip maker closed at $795.23, even as the broader stock market rallied after the election.
Micron shares fell 7.00% to close at $795.23 on Wednesday, a sharp divergence from a rising U.S. stock market. The regular-session decline was $59.87 a share.
The memory-chip maker was part of a wider selloff in companies tied to AI infrastructure. Nvidia and data-center operators also fell, while large technology platforms including Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Meta advanced.
Market analysts linked that split to expectations that Democratic election victories could lead to tighter scrutiny of data-center expansion. A slower buildout could affect companies supplying new capacity differently from the platforms buying computing services. That is an assessment of future policy and spending, not evidence that a nationwide restriction has been enacted.
The move came a day after AMD reported rapid data-center growth. Strong results at one supplier do not settle the outlook for every part of the hardware market.
Micron's $795.23 figure is the regular-session close, not an after-hours quote. The wider market's closing levels and the fall in oil are in today's Dusk Ledger.
