Chain, Crude & Chips: October 28, 2026
Oil rebounds at settlement, bitcoin trades near $81,000, and cloud earnings add a new test for AI spending.
Crude: WTI returns above $100
West Texas Intermediate crude settled at $102.78 a barrel Wednesday, up $2.88, or 2.88%. Brent settled at $115.32, up $1.44, or 1.26%. CNBC and Xinhua reported the same settlement levels. The rise reversed Tuesday's decline as coverage continued to focus on Middle East conflict and supply risks. These are futures prices, not a quote for gasoline at the pump.
Chain: bitcoin around $81,000 after the Fed
CoinDesk and CoinMarketCap reported bitcoin trading around $81,000 to $81,200 after the Fed left rates unchanged. Those are afternoon snapshots, not an official daily close or a live price feed. The reports describe a recovery above $81,000 following swings earlier in the day; they do not establish that the rate decision alone caused the move. See our Fed report for the policy decision.
Chips: supplier strength meets the customer earnings test
CNBC and Reuters reported gains in memory-chip shares following SK Hynix's results, including strength in Micron during the session. After the bell, attention shifted to major cloud customers. CNBC and CoinDesk reported Microsoft revenue of about $92.3 billion and Azure growth of 48%. CNBC and 9to5Google reported Alphabet revenue of about $127.6 billion and Google Cloud revenue of about $30.7 billion.
Those figures describe revenue, not the profit on every AI investment. Hardware demand, customer spending and cash generation are related questions, but they are different measures. Our Vertiv results report covers data-center equipment demand, while today's Dusk Ledger separates the regular-session close from the early after-hours earnings reactions.
