Oil eases again, bitcoin funds lose cash and AMD delivers growth
Tuesday's Chain, Crude & Chips: crude settlements, Monday's bitcoin ETF flows and AMD's new results.
Oil edged lower again on Tuesday, bitcoin funds carried another day of withdrawals into November, and AMD's results gave the chip trade a new set of numbers to assess.
Crude: a smaller second decline
December WTI lost 37 cents to settle at $96.09 a barrel. January Brent fell $1.17 to $103.60. Hopes for diplomacy helped keep pressure on prices, but the conflict and risks to shipping remain. Tuesday's move followed Monday's much larger selloff, not another decline of the same size.
Chain: funds lose about $399 million
U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded about $399 million in net outflows on Monday, their second straight session of withdrawals. The two-session total exceeded $1 billion. These are fund flows for completed trading sessions, not a live bitcoin price or a measure of every crypto investor's activity.
That distinction matters in a continuously traded market. A fund can lose cash while bitcoin's price moves differently over a particular hour.
Chips: data-center sales drive AMD
AMD reported third-quarter revenue of $13.38 billion, up 45%, and data-center revenue of $8.55 billion, up 97%. Its fourth-quarter forecast calls for about $17 billion in sales, plus or minus 3%. Read the AMD results article for the earnings measures and weaker gaming business.
