U.S. stocks opened sharply higher Wednesday after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress, extending the recovery from overnight market losses.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 997.76 points, or 1.93%, to 52,784.48 at the opening bell, according to Reuters. The S&P 500 gained 1.14% to 7,655.43, while the Nasdaq Composite added 1.07% to 25,643.36. Those are opening levels, not current quotes.

The rally came as investors weighed divided government in Washington against the possibility of tougher scrutiny of artificial intelligence and data-center construction. Data-center-related shares were under pressure even as the major indexes advanced.

The contrast matters: a rising index does not mean every part of the market is benefiting from the same political outcome. The early gains also followed a sharp reversal in overnight trading, rather than a calm start to the day.

Economic releases and company earnings remain separate tests for the rally. The opening move captures the first reaction in regular trading, not a verdict on how the full session will finish.
