Seoul stocks jump 3.1% as chip shares lead an Asian rebound
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix rallied, while Tokyo also finished higher.
South Korea's Kospi rose 3.09% to close at 5,638.34 on Tuesday, led by semiconductor stocks after Monday's technology-led rebound on Wall Street. Samsung Electronics gained 4.23%, while SK hynix climbed 5.18%. Japan's Nikkei 225 also finished higher.
The gains followed renewed enthusiasm for artificial-intelligence stocks after Anthropic filed for an initial public offering.
The rally comes ahead of major technology earnings and the Federal Reserve's policy decision this week. It is a stronger start for Asian chip shares, rather than a sign that concerns about the cost of AI investment have disappeared. For the U.S. session that preceded the move, see Monday's Dusk Ledger.
