After the close, Monday October 26: what moved, why, and what to watch next.

| Index | Close | Day |
|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,676.77 | +0.7% |

U.S. stocks rose Monday as AI-linked shares rebounded and oil prices eased. The Dow added 146.42 points, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq recovered ground after back-to-back weekly declines. Percentage moves are rounded.
What moved, and why
Anthropic's filing gave AI shares a lift. Chipmakers including Nvidia, Micron, AMD and Broadcom advanced as investors assessed the AI lab's proposed public listing. CoreWeave and Nebius also reversed early losses. The rebound does not settle the debate over the cost and payoff of AI infrastructure. See our Anthropic IPO story.
Oil slipped but remained elevated. Front-month Brent settled at $115.81 a barrel, down 91 cents, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate settled at $101.76, down $1.51. Traders weighed efforts to ease Middle East tensions against continuing supply risks. Earlier: our oil story.
Brazil's election shock stood apart. Brazilian shares tumbled following Lula's surprise re-election even as U.S. indexes rose. Our morning circuit-breaker report covers the trading halt, and the midday wrap records the subsequent moves. Those figures are intraday snapshots, not closing prices.
What to watch next
The Federal Reserve's two-day meeting begins Tuesday, with its rate announcement scheduled for Wednesday at 2:00 PM ET. This week's earnings and policy decisions leave little room to treat one day's AI rebound as a final verdict. See the week ahead.
