Tesla shares slip after capex cut raises doubts over Musk’s AI and robotics push
The EV maker lowered its 2026 capital spending forecast to about $20 billion, down from more than $25 billion.
Tesla shares fell about 2% on Thursday after the company cut its capital spending forecast, worrying investors who were counting on heavy investment to fund Elon Musk’s artificial-intelligence and robotics plans.
Tesla now expects 2026 capital expenditures of about $20 billion, down from the more than $25 billion it had guided to since April. The change appeared in the quarterly filing released alongside Wednesday’s earnings report.
The pullback clouds Musk’s effort to reorient Tesla around AI, robots and self-driving vehicles, businesses that require heavy spending. It followed third-quarter results in which profit fell 29% as costs rose.
