10-year Treasury yield falls below 5% as investors rush to safety
The benchmark yield hit its lowest level in nearly a month as AI-spending fears rattled stocks and traders bought government bonds.
The 10-year Treasury yield fell below 5% on Thursday, its lowest level in nearly a month, as a broad flight to safety boosted demand for U.S. government bonds.
The drop reversed weeks of selling in long-dated Treasurys that had pushed yields above that level. Investors moved into bonds as stocks tied to the artificial-intelligence boom tumbled - the Nasdaq slumped about 2% at midday and Meta lost roughly 6%, as Ticker Den reported earlier.
Bond yields move in the opposite direction of prices. A falling yield means investors are paying more for the relative safety of government debt, a common pattern when stock markets sell off.
